Africa Museum

This museum was opened In 1986 at an ancient colonial palace located in Old Havana, to promote the African culture and also its history. It has valuable collections of 26 African countries enriched with the important Afro-Cuban collection of prestigious Cuban researcher Don Fernando Ortiz and the African Collection of President Fidel Castro. At this center, the ethnic and cultural problems of the countries represented in its collections, are studied, particularly those that had a direct influence in the Cuban culture. Knowing that this kind of exhibitions are real laboratories where the theories of ethnography are put into practice, the Africa House treasures objects of incredible ethnographic importance. This institution also enjoys the support of some specialists from different branches of social sciences, who offer their scientific knowledge, which is of paramount importance for the institution. The Africa House museum is a research center, a place where researchers, ethnologists, linguists, and scholars of the African and Afro-Cuban subjects and themes gather to promote and show the results of their works.
